Research & Analysis
Sustain and Executive Director Nick Rose have a long track record of food systems research and analysis.
We have partnered and maintain relationships with several universities and researchers including RMIT University, Edith Cowan University, Monash University, Sydney University, the University of Wollongong and the University of Tasmania. Our applied food systems work attracts the interest of many research students and we have supported several internships from both Australian and international students.
We carried out case studies of the work of agribusiness officers in the City of Whittlesea and Mornington Peninsula Shire Council (2015), published a mapping and review of urban agriculture and related strategies across 18 local councils (2016), supporting the publication of the Foodprint Melbourne report published by the Victorian Eco Innovation Lab (2016), and published a 60-page pilot study into the Bendigo Local Food Economy involving interviews with multiple businesses, producers, council staff and community organisations (2017). We submitted a report to the Victorian TAFE Food and Fibre Coalition on the role of the vocational training sector in supporting economic development and entrepreneurship, based on interviews and site visits to community colleges in Ontario and Quebec (2016).
