The City of Onkaparinga is the largest metropolitan council in South Australia and a popular destination for visitors to the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Our pristine coastline extends over 31 kilometres from O’Sullivan Beach to Sellicks Beach. The clear gulf waters attract beachgoers for many different activities including swimming, surfing, sailing, walking, snorkelling and beachcombing.
We are also home to the beautiful McLaren Vale wine region which is known for its world-class wine and excellent markets, boutiques and galleries.
Our Council of elected members is comprised of the mayor and twelve councillors. The city is divided into six wards and each is represented by two councillors.
Our Community Plan, Onkaparinga 2030, sets out the long-term directions for the city. Our focus is on the health and wellbeing of our communities, the strong economy we can build together and the sustainability of our environment.
We are involved in a wide range of food initiatives promoting health and wellbeing in our community. These contribute to the sharing of skills and knowledge while building a sense of community and connection to the environment.
Current projects we support include:
- Community gardens
- Magic Harvest
- Verge growing
- Participation in the Onkaparinga Food Security Collaborative
- Supporting community groups with cooking and skill development programs
- Linking with other state and interstate work on food security
