Government Change-Makers Network

As a local government representative, you are working on the frontlines of food system transformation.

The work you do in chambers, council offices and in your community is one of the strongest levers we have to shift our collective food system towards health, sustainability and equity.

But we all know that transforming food system is hard. There are few operating manuals for this work. So let’s write one together.

The Government Change-Makers network brings together council staff working across wellbeing, health, environment, community development, food security and more. Our focus is on sharing our respective food system work, learning from specialists and identifying areas for collective action.

Local Government Food Systems Networking Quarterly Forum

This is our regular time to build connections with each other, deepen our knowledge of food systems and learn about what’s working (and what’s not) in other local government projects.

Recent forums have focused on topics like understanding the impact of State and Federal legislative framework changes, overcoming resourcing challenges and overcoming internal silos that make cross-departmental collaboration difficult.

The Government Change-Makers space on The Australian Food Network (AFN)

The AFN is a digital gathering space for Australia’s food system change-makers, with more than 350 members ranging from policy makers, to farmers, community organisers, food system academics, educators and more. This is a place for movement-building conversations, supporting each other’s work, curating resources and connecting and learning together in our workshops and networking events.

In a private space on the platform for Government Change-Makers, we post resources, follow-up on our forums, co-design what we cover next and discuss relevant news.

How to get involved

The Quarterly Forums are exclusively for local governments that are AFN members. Annual AFN memberships are:

  • Rural/regional council – $1000+GST
  • Metro Council – $1400+ GST
