Food Systems Roadmap — Central Goldfields Shire Council

Sustain partnered with the Council to develop the Central Goldfields Food Systems Roadmap, funded by VicHealth. The roadmap drew on consultations with over 230 community members and stakeholders (via interviews, “Kitchen Table Talks”, listening posts and written feedback) to map the local food system, identify access challenges, and surface ideas for change.

The document outlines 19 recommendations across five key themes: local food systems governance; small-scale and shared growing; food education; diverse retail options; and regional partnerships — all contributing to a shared vision for a more equitable, connected and healthy local food system.

Outcomes

  • The Roadmap leverages strong community voice and local data to inform future projects in the shire and support Council and partners in securing funding and resources toward healthy eating and food access
  • The established Central Goldfields Food Network now acts as a collaborative forum for community groups, individuals and organisations, guiding implementation of the Roadmap and ensuring the momentum continues beyond the report.
